My view of the new Maps for BF3

First off, let me saw, I cannot wait to just see the sweetness of BF3.   Ok now that that is out of the way, I’m sure you folk are felling the same way.

Ok getting down to the maps that the descriptions and map designer described in the latest Battleblog post HERE,  This is a two part post and from what I read the second part of the post will be tomorrow.

The first map that was talked about was OPERATION FIRESTORM.  From what we already know, all of the maps BF3 will be compatible with all game types. (Rush, Conquest, TDM, Squad Rush, and Squad DM).  The most interesting thing that I got from NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S thoughts was that the largest map in BFBC2 - Atacama Deserts is 3 times smaller than this map (OPERATION FIRESTORM or working title – oilfields from DICE).  This map will be huge.  While reading this part of the post, I’m remembering Highway Tampa from BF2 and a map from the mod Project Reality for BF2 Basrah.  Those maps where huge.  I played the beta on Caspian border and I thought that that map was a good size and the gameplay on that map with everything going on was fantastic. So I can’t wait to jump into this map with a couple of friends and start rocking out.  I found this Video of Operation Firestorm, IGN did a Developer Commentary review of the map HERE.

The second map that was revealed was OPERATION MÉTRO.  Ok so if you didn’t play the beta you missed an ok map.  This map reminds me of BFBC2 Arica Harbor.  It really has the same contempt.  The post stated that the map is like three maps in one.  Starting in the park, then the subway system, and then in the Paris Exchange area.  Arica Harbor really is similar. Starting in an open desert, then moving to urban CQB, and then to I guess an in-between of CQB and mid-range warfare. I don’t know, seem similar to map style.  But I do have to say than the graphics are fantastic.  And I have to give it to the DICE team for the Frostbite 2 engine.

TEHRAN HIGHWAY was the third map that was revealed.  This map I don’t know about it will go either way in the community liking it and disliking it.  First this map is from what I understand a night map.  And the reason way I say it is a toss-up on the community liking it and disliking it, because of BF2 Special Forces expansion pack map Devils Perch.  In my opinion it was not a liked map by the community.  I have not seen any other info on this map, just from the blog post so it is really up in the air.  Let me tell you though with the way that things are going with graphics and gameplay, I think it will be great to play.

And the last map that was revealed was DAMAVAND PEAK. This map out of the other three that were revealed in the blog post, this map looks to be the coolest one of the four.  Just the working title – Base-jump just think of the name and know think of that name in a battlefield setting.  Mm interesting. Know NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S says this map will start with attackers at the top of the map and defenders at the bottom.  Ok know what do you see.  Ok back to what NIKLAS ÅSTRAND’S said, “Attackers in Rush and Squad Rush will start high up on a mountain ridge above a mining facility. The only way down into the valley is to somehow make the 500 meter descent.”  Ok so I’ve been comparing these maps to older map and the concepts of those maps to the concept of the older maps.  This map reminds me of Warlords from BF2: Special Forces.  You start has an attacker and Para drop to the battlefield.

So just the environment that the DICE team puts the players in on these maps, it’s just amazing to me, just take a minute and imagine the battles, the gameplay that you will have on just these four maps, I can’t wait to play.

Like I said, there will be part 2 of the post, I hope tomorrow.  So please check back for that.
