EA in Trademark Dispute over BF3's Helicopters

Did you ever think a video game needed to get permission from weapon / vehicle makers before adding it to it's arsenal? Well according to a recent lawsuit against EA, that's the way it should be. On December 21st, 2011 a lawsuit was filed by Textron (Apart of Bell) to EA for them to cease the depiction of three bell manufactured helicopters in Battlefield 3 (That being the AH-1Z Viper, UH-1Y Super Huey and the V-22 Osprey).

After receiving this notice, EA responded by requesting a rule that it has the First Amendment right to portray military helicopters in a video game without receiving direct permission from the manufacture. But still it appears that the two companies have yet to make an agreement on the issue. But of all lawsuit's in the gaming world, the topic of this comes as a surprise. It will be interesting to see what actually comes out of it. Better be sure to make good use of those copters now just incase they get removed!

little bipod update.

This I found following http://twitter.com/Demize99  Demize99 stated "The bipod deploy button separate and bindable on PC should make a future update."

this is interesting and a little bit of PC love of the consoles.  the rest ofthe converstion states the following "Yes! it will be changable, default is same as zoom."

So I'm wondering if this is something that will make it into the patch that is in talks for so called Feb.  and that will be included in the details from the earler post.

Regardless pretty cool.

possible update for BF3 in Feb

Foregrip
The Foregrip is for players who who are in close combat and highly mobile fighting situations. It reduces the horizontal recoil forces that make maintaining a consistant aim on target difficult, however it makes aimed shots more difficult.
  • +34% reduction in horizontal recoil (adjust based on gun)
  • -20% penalty to base accuracy when aimed (I don't understand the reason for the reduction or accuracy when this addon is supposed to increase it that is way I use it.)
Bipod
The Bipod is for Players who wish to setup a position and hold it against the enemy, or make long range shots effectively. When deployed recoil and dispersion are substantially reduced and scope sway is eliminated (except under suppression).
  • +Reduction in horizontal and vertical recoil (% depends on gun type) (very good Plus)
  • +Reduction in dispersion (% depends on gun type/ammo type) (very good Plus)
  • -Has to be setup to get the benefit  (this I thought was a given and that you already had to do this)
Suppressor
The Suppressor is for players who are mostly focused on Stealth. It uses low velocity rounds, which means better stealth at the cost of reduced range. The Suppressor adds bulk to a weapon due to its size, making firing from the hip more difficult, though a high quality Suppressor provides a small aimed accuracy bonus and reduces the muzzle rise when firing.
  • +Does not appear on minimap when firing. (very good Plus)
  • +Reduces sound and visual muzzle signature  (very good Plus)
  • -Reduced range for both min and max, damage stays the same. (this does not really pertain to me dew to the fact that i don't go for distance targets)
  • -50% penalty to base accuracy from the hip (ok Question though,  this mean firing the gun not looking down the sights correct?)
  • +25% bonus to base accuracy when aimed (yes yes yes my question has been answered) (why did they not does this for the foregrip or the bipod)
  • +10% reduced vertical recoil (i like this - this is dew to the weight)
Heavy Barrel
The Heavy Barrel is for players who are focused on Accurate Aimed fire. It uses high velocity rounds, which means the bullet drop is reduced and the max range of the weapon is increased at the cost of an increase in auto fire dispersion. The Heavy Barrel adds bulk to a weapon due to its weight, making firing from the hip more difficult, though it gives a substantial increase in aimed accuracy bonus.
  • +Increased maximum range, damage stays the same. (very good Plus)
  • -25% increased dispersion per shot (mmmmm)
  • +50% bonus to base accuracy when aimed (very good Plus)
  • -25% penalty to base accuracy from the hip (must be looking down the sights)
Flash Suppressor
The Flash Suppressor is for players who want some additional Stealth, without the range and accuracy penalties of a Suppressor. It works as a recoil compensator, reducing recoil, though it adds a slight bit of bulk making firing from the hip more difficult.
  • +Reduces visual muzzle signature (very good Plus)
  • +20% reduced vertical recoil (very good Plus) (weight I guess)
  • -20% penalty to base accuracy from the hip (sights again)
Target Pointer
The Target Pointer is for players who want to run and gun from the hip. The laser is visible, making the user more visibile to other combatants and thus less Stealthy.
  • -Visible Laser (I like this wish they can do the same with the tack light)
  • +Laser can dazzle opponents (nooooo)
  • +33% increase in base accuracy from the hip (great fuel for the run and gun)
I'm not sure the status of the date for the update but it does not really look like to me that this will be a client side patch, I personally don't think that DICE would put out a small patch without and content (new content mind you).  This looks like a server patch to me.  But im just a lowly player so what do I know.
